Orissa, a state situated on the eastern coastal region of India. It welcomes tourist with its enthralling cultural activities and fascinating arts and craftwork. It is the largest state of India by area, is perpetually touched by Bay of Bengal. Through Kalinga war Orissa acquires an imperative consign in history too. As consecrated with hundreds of temples, it is proud to be as one of the renowned pilgrim centers in India.  

Bhuvaneshwar is one of the antique cities in India. It reminds the cultural tradition that subsists in Orissa. Being the capital city of Orissa, Bhuvaneshwar is well associated with world through air, rail and road. Bhuvaneshwar is known as the city of temples.

Khandhagiri and Udhayagiri hills are among the famous tourist spots, which is 8 km from Bhuvaneshwar; these two adjacent hills are dug up to form caves called Khandhagiri caves and Udhayagiri caves.

Totally there are 33 rock cut caves of which 18 rock cut caves are in Udhayagiri hills whereas 15 are in Khandhagiri hills. Apart from caves you can see couple of Jain temples are also there. It is said that these caves were built for the residential purpose of Jain monks.

Dhauli hills are in the southern banks of Daya river .It is 8 km away from Bhuvaneshwar. Dhauli hills are a chain of hills and consist of many rock-cut carvings.

Dhauli hills witnessed the famous Kalinga war, won by Mauryan emperor Ashoka. By seeing the victims of Kalinga war the emperor Ashoka renounced war and adopted Buddhism to actualize the ultimate happiness. Dhauli hills are adorned with many monuments.

Peace pagoda (Shanthi Stupa) is situated opposite to the Dhauli hills. A Buddhist artifact, the central attraction of Shanthi Stupa.

Apart from statue of Buddha many other sculpture such as footprints of Buddha, an elephant procession, a procession on horseback, the Bodhi tree etc are worth seeing. Saddharma Vihar Lalitagiri is another attraction of Dhauli hills.

Konark sun temple is situated in Puri district of Orissa.

It is 65 km from Bhuvaneshwar. Konark sun temple is dedicated to god sun and is well known for its splendid sculptural work.  

Korark Natya Mandap is another attraction; founded in 1986, which speaks out the rich cultural heritage of Orissa. Korark Natya Mandap was founded by Guru Gangadhar Pradhan. It is known as the traditional Gurukul ashram. It aims to spread cultural responsiveness among people and trains interested persons in yoga, music and dance. Konark beach is one of the famous beaches in eastern India.  

You can see the rare breed of white tiger in the wildlife sanctuaries of Orissa. Some of the popular wildlife sanctuaries in Orissa are Bhitarkanika, Chilka, Nandanan, Satkosia gorge and Sunabeda. Major national parks in Orissa are Nandan Kanan national park and Simlipal national park.

The major attraction of Chilka Lake, Asia’s largest salted backwater lake is the migratory

birds and dolphins. It can be called an ornithologist’s paradise. This is the best production ground of flamingoes.

As the climate is pleasing from October to march, it becomes the right time to visit Orissa.
